Welcome to month of all-hollows-eve… Did I even spell that right? Anyway, it’s a cool October that’s brewing up.
First off, I’ve found an old interview I did from radio station KFLI out of Arizona. It was for the E.A.R. CD and is funny for it’s grass-roots feel. I really have to give kudos for KFLI and the DJ for having me on. It was a treat.
Second, I have started booking shows for the fall and will continue to add shows as information becomes available, the first is coming October 26th in beautiful Venice CA. Please come on back and find out if I’m coming to a venue near you.
Third, the new version of the website is very near. I had a discovery last night that will help expedite the method I wanted to use for a special new section to the website. I’m still debating on whether or not to launch the website in advance of the release of “Practical Insanity” or if I should just wait until the street date of the CD.
The song I wrote with Lindy Robbins and Johnny Elkins for the Oneness organization has been finished. It’s called “In Disguise”. I’ll work on putting up a 2 minute clip of it somewhere on the website in the near future. The interesting thing is that I’ve heard it would be good for Clay Aiken or Hillary Duff. I’d be strangely happy if it got recorded by either one of them.
In the mean time, I’m rehearsing the songs for the live show. If you’re still interested in hearing the wonderful comments from the Frosty, Heidi and Frank Should I Stay or Should I Go? <– then follow that link I just pointed to!
Enjoy
You’re probably hoping to hear the Frosty, Heidi and Frank stuff for Should I Stay or Should I Go? <– that’s the link, hint hint. G’head play it and have fun listening to what everyone had to say.
Yes, there are shows in the works. Look above and you’ll see a couple of things listed. But c’mon back as more are going to be added soon.
I’ve had a chance to see the initial pictures for the CD/DVD package for “Practical Insanity”. I think it’s going to really be a different concept. I can’t wait to see the final outcome. Stay tuned, I’ll probably post some FPO’s of the cover in the next few weeks.
Visit the Low Down archive to read up about my experience writing with some heavy duty songwriters.
Got to spend the day writing a song with a group of talented writers for an organization called “Oneness”. It was kinda weird as I felt like the odd-boy-out. Everyone there had amazing credentials or were signed on major labels. Then there’s little ol’ me feeling like I got sent to boot camp. It felt good to be welcomed into the fold of 50 songwriters that have written numerous songs that you’ve likely heard. It felt even better to come highly recommended to the group.
I was paired up with a couple of hit lyrisists. Which when it comes down to it, was a bit strange. I was the musical force in the room and sort of mediated between two people very passionate about words, who also looked for input from me as to what to say. The song we wrote is called “in Disguise”. The subject matter has to do with breaking down barriers between people. And the end of the day, all the writers groups were put on stage to perform the music they had just written. Let me tell you, it was pretty amazing to hear what some of those groups came up with. Every song was really good, but there were a couple that flat out killed. The concept behind “Oneness” is for musicians to use the power of music to write something positive to help heal the world. I will certainly attend again next year.
When I get the demo of “In Disguise” done, I’ll post a two minute clip here.
If you’re looking for the Frosty, Heidi and Frank show clip that I was featured on, the link is here: Should I Stay or Should I Go
Happy Birthday! Oh Yeah, it’s Jody’s birthday today.
On the side note, I finally got the audio for the KLSX 97.1 Frosty, Heidi and Frank show. What a fun birthday present! So, I decided to edit out the majority of the songs and and chopped out all the commercials. Here’s the link for you to listen in on how I did on Should I Stay or Should I Go.
Starting to get the feet wet into getting more shows. On the hush hush is the fact that Frosty, Heidi and Frank have put the feelers out for a live show on the air with them in the near future. I’ll let everyone know when I know more.
Peace!
The photo shoot went great, everyone involved had a good time. Lots and lots of photos to pour over. Rad from radstudio.com should be getting me comps of the CD art soon. In the mean time I’ve got a nifty little image that you can download right now… Got Jody?
The response from the Frosty, Heidi and Frank show on 97.1 KLSX was amazing. Thanks to everyone that came by and checked me out. Still working on obtaining a copy of the show so that I can post it here for you to hear.
Getting all the ducks in a row. Shows will likely start in September. Other news shortly.
Play on!
How much fun was that?!?
I just got played on the Frosty, Heidi and Frank show on 97.1 KLSX for their “Should I Stay or Should I Go” thing! Six votes to one say I should stick it out in LA and the music business. Thank you to those seven souls whom I don’t even know that called in and said I should stay! If you’re just browsing in because you heard the show, thank you! There are 2 minute clips of the whole CD called Practical Insanity – which is what those two songs are from on the Albums page. I certainly hope you love the music enough to sign up for the mailing list and get some music or come to a show.
If you taped the Should I Stay or Should I Go? segment, please contact me, I would love you to death to get a copy of that.
In other news, I’m shooting the cover for Practical Insanity on monday the 26th. So the artwork will be done soon.
Peace.
Well, the word is out. I’ve got people all over the place checking out the business plan. So Practical Insanity will become a reality for the world soon. In the meantime I really have to thank Sennheiser for highlighting me in their last Press Release!
Also, as you look at the concert calendar, you’ll notice that August 7th will be the first show since the recording of Practical Insanity has finished. I figure it’s a great way to get a bunch of friends down for not only my upcoming Birthday, but for my friend Colin who has invited me and the band back for the second annual Colin Thompson Bash. Everyone can now stop asking when the next show in Los Angeles is: It’s August 7th.
Since I’m antsy to get playing, I’ll start booking some low key shows until we have a solid booking agent lined up for the full-on national tour to commence later this year in support of Practical Insanity.
The cover photo shoot will happen in the next two weeks. I’ve assembled a crew of people and we’re headed to Ed Ouellette’s Studio in Valencia CA. He’s the genius behind the camera from the cover shoot of “is this considered naked”. Also in the wind… There is the possibility of another video shoot happening really soon. Song and date have yet to be picked but there is interest from management to put another one in the can before the release of the CD and DVD.
Come Back Soon!
Looks like the cover shoot will happen on Sunday. All the fun will be then, but until that happens, feed on this:
I’m mentioned in the latest Sennheiser Press Release along with Sugarcult!! Read on and check it out. I’m very flattered.

The cover art concepts have been approved, the photo shoot gear has been arranged and now we’re attempting how to figure out pulling it off to be believable. Stay tuned on that. But I dare say it’s a funny but effective cover design.
The next step is to figure out how to go on the audio side. I’m thinking it will be SACD and a DVD. That way I can still get the surround sound mixes to you but keep the video content on the DVD at a higher quality. SACD is a pretty neat format. Allows you to play the standard audio in a CD player, but if you have an SACD player you can hear the surround sound mixes.
In another website advance, the quotes have been tweaked, now much easier for me to add them into rotation when I get them, and also now formatted so that their easier to read and easier for you to tell who said them. Ah the wonders of modern technology. Also making it’s debut is the new and improved e-mail signup form. To get all the latest J-Dubya news delivered to your door all ya do is add your e-mail address into the form above.
In the mean time… Go Karl Malone, help the Lakers get you that championship ring you so deserve!
Little changes are creeping up on the site. if you’ve been repeated browsing in over the past week you’ve probably noticed minor revisions going on with the site. The format is evolving into something a little less ordinary and hopefully more fun.
The website will undergo a major facelift on the release date of Practical Insanity. I won’t be giving sneak peeks it will just happen: BANG! new look to the site. All to make it tie in better with the new release. So while the content is being tweaked right now you can keep browsing in, checking out songs, and seeing little things changing. Don’t be shocked when the new look happens. It will be cool.
In that vein, I should be seeing the concept of the cover art to Practical Insanity later tonight. I’m excited. It’s all coming together now.
Keep tuning in.
