    Animate Me

animate-rushI used to teach guitar lessons when I first started making my way in the world of music. Then I got full bore into writing and performing music. One thing teaching did was keep me up on a ton of bands that students want to learn to play like. There is one band that I really dug and still dig. That band is RUSH. They epitomize the concept of hardworking band. What’s awesome is that they make complicated music sound easy and musical. One of my favorite tunes they’ve done is probably more pop oriented than many of their fans would like is called Animate. Regardless I love it. Here it is for you to enjoy:

    Goddess in my garden
    Sister in my soul
    Angel in my armor
    Actress in my role

    Daughter of a demon lover
    Empress of the hidden face
    Priestess of the pagan mother
    Ancient queen of inner space

    Spirit in my psyche
    Double in my role
    Alter in my image
    Struggle for control

    Mistress of the dark unconscious
    Mermaid of the lunar sea
    Daughter of the great enchantress
Sister to the boy inside of me

    My counterpart, my foolish heart
A man must learn to rule his tender part
A warming trend, a gentle friend
A man must build a fortress to defend
A secret face, a touch of grace
A man must learn to give a little space
A peaceful state, a submissive trait
A man must learn to gently dominate

All I Want For Christmas Is You

all-i-want-for-christmasI’m gonna go out on a limb here and formally let you know that I’m a fan of the movie ‘Love Actually’. There I said it. No, I’m not turning in my man-card. It’s a brilliantly written movie. Plus I dig all the actors and actresses in the movie, plus what’s not to love about british romance? What’s my point? Well at the end of the flick there’s a special christmas performer who sings a tune and she does an amazing job at it. Thus for all the fans of the flick, I’m posting the lyrics for All I Want For Christmas Is You.

p.s. – if you don’t know, I’ve done a cover version of this and you can get it on iTunes or listen on Spotify.

    I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about the presents
    Underneath the Christmas tree

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
    Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you, yeah.

    I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don’t care about the presents
    Underneath the Christmas tree

I don’t need to hang my stocking
    There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day

I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
    Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
    You, baby

Oh, I won’t ask for much this Christmas
I won’t even wish for snow
And I’m just gonna keep on waiting
    Underneath the mistletoe

I won’t make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won’t even stay awake to
    Hear those magic reindeer click

‘Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
    What more can I do?
Baby, all I want for Christmas is you
    You, baby

Oh, all the lights are shining
    So brightly everywhere
    And the sound of children’s
    Laughter fills the air

    And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa, won’t you bring me the one I really need?
Won’t you please bring my baby to me?

Oh, I don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all I’m asking for
I just want to see my baby
    Standing right outside my door

Oh, I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
    Make my wish come true
Baby, all I want for Christmas is
    You, baby

All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby
All I want for Christmas is you, baby

    Enjoy!

  • Breathe (2AM) By Anna Nalick

    Breathe (2AM) By Anna Nalick

breath-(2am)A few years ago a song came across my speakers that I had somehow made an instant connection with. It could have had something to do with lots of late nights while working on new songs. Now as I’m getting things finished on a new single I’m running into that same feeling of attachment and late nights. The song I got that connection to years ago was Breath (2 AM) by Anna Nalick off her album Wreck of the Day. Such an interesting title for an album. It’s still resonating years later with a very appropriate suggestion – to just breath. Definitely something we all need to do from time to time in this world.

2 AM and she calls me ’cause I’m still awake,
“Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don’t love him. Winter just wasn’t my season”
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You’re all here for the very same reason

‘Cause you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
    And breathe… just breathe,
    Oh breathe, just breathe

May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
“Just a day” he said down to the flask in his fist,
“Ain’t been sober, since maybe October of last year.”
Here in town you can tell he’s been down for a while,
But, my God, it’s so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I’ll just sing about it.

Cause you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable,
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
    And breathe… just breathe,
    Oh breathe, just breathe

There’s a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout ’cause you’re just as far in as you’ll ever be out
And these mistakes you’ve made, you’ll just make them again
If you’d only try turning around.

2 AM and I’m still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it’s no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I’m naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you’ll use them, however you want to

But you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable,
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
    Sing it if you understand.
    and breathe, just breathe
    woah breathe, just breathe,
    Oh breathe, just breathe,
    Oh breathe, just breathe.
