How Creative Setbacks Shape a Musician’s Emotional Growth

Little steps backwards are sometimes a great way to get a big jump forward. I’ve experienced a good deal creative setbacks; not only with music and technology but also with food. Yesterday started with the bigger steps forward and it makes me giddy when that happens. Plus there’s another new release, Barricades of Hate, coming this Friday.

As mentioned last week, I started shifting some technical things away from 3rd parties in regards to emails. It has more to do with removing the middle-men between you and I. The less outside prying eyes about your information you allow me to have, the better.

Last night, that connection became 1 degree. Meaning, your info when it comes to my contact list for my web store or my email list for updates no longer has a 3rd degree of distance. If you’re already on my email list, you’ll only notice that it no longer has a 3rd party name on it.

For anyone who is new to my musical world, you’ll be getting the best of the upcoming world when you join my musical army.

It took a lot of little steps backwards and forwards getting it to actually work. Then last night, BAM! I finally got it doing what it should to send the emails. It’s exciting. And what I’m putting on the roadmap is even more exciting.

Musically, I had some little steps go wrong with getting some of my updates to work right in the web store, not any more. Those updates are up and available as well. Whew.

On the side I’ve learned to make bread, the kind you eat. What is crazy is that I grind my own wheat berries for the flour to make said bread. Generally it goes quite well. Unfortunately the last loaf did not rise correctly on Sunday. But Monday, I made a different loaf that worked splendidly. Odd how fresh flour can be so finicky.

Which now brings me to this week’s upcoming release, Barricades of Hate. New artwork, new mix, and an animated cover. More nice steps forward and it makes me giddy. The timeliness of this song’s message can’t be better. Especially with the current state of affairs.

I have hope that we’ll stop having the your side, my side spats and get back to the truth!

    More coming…

  • Weed Music

Its Friday and I’m feeling a bit crazy! Well, maybe I’m not really crazy, but I have been doing some research into a new digital file format called WEED. Now you must be asking yourself, what is WEED? Glad you ask. Weed files are a nifty new version of WMA files. They are 192k mp3’s that have some kind of special digital rights. How does it work? you ask. Well, essentially the same as any other WMA file. It may require you to upgrade your WMA player. But once you have, you can play any weed file only 3 times for free. That’s right, get to hear any weed file 3 times for free. After the third time you press play, you’ll be asked to pay for the song in order to hear it more.

Now, this gets even better, me as the artist gets paid when you purchase the song. However, you, the music fan, have the oportunity to make money off this as well. How do I MAKE MONEY on a WEED file Jody? It’s easy, after you purchase the song, you can freely trade the song to your friends or on the P2P networks. Then if someone else purchases one of the songs you’ve traded – you make a cut of the sale. Its the greatest pyramid scheme ever invented – you get great music, and you can make money just for trading it (provided you trade a file you purchased).

The only drawback at the moment is that it only works on PC’s. I’m being told that Mac, and Linux compatibility of the players are coming soon.

So, while I’m off to go sing a song, you can now visit the music (Albums) page and check out the weed files and have some fun.

Oh, and the song? I’m singing a song written by CJ Vanston and a couple of his co-writers (Jon Shanks, and Johnny Elkins). Who is CJ Vanston? He’s part of the master-mind group behind Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind. I’m excited to have been asked to sing this.

    Have a great day!

  • Cover Art Concepts

The cover art concepts have been approved, the photo shoot gear has been arranged and now we’re attempting how to figure out pulling it off to be believable. Stay tuned on that. But I dare say it’s a funny but effective cover design.

The next step is to figure out how to go on the audio side. I’m thinking it will be SACD and a DVD. That way I can still get the surround sound mixes to you but keep the video content on the DVD at a higher quality. SACD is a pretty neat format. Allows you to play the standard audio in a CD player, but if you have an SACD player you can hear the surround sound mixes.

In another website advance, the quotes have been tweaked, now much easier for me to add them into rotation when I get them, and also now formatted so that their easier to read and easier for you to tell who said them. Ah the wonders of modern technology. Also making it’s debut is the new and improved e-mail signup form. To get all the latest J-Dubya news delivered to your door all ya do is add your e-mail address into the form above.

In the mean time… Go Karl Malone, help the Lakers get you that championship ring you so deserve!
