In Love With My Car by Queen

roger_taylor-in_love_with_my_carIn Love With My Car is probably my favorite tune about cars. I imagine it’s probably the favorite tune for many people that really like their cars. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s a cool rock song from one of the biggest bands in music history, Queen. I suppose I’m feeling a bit ready for this song today because I’m going through a period of needing to fix things in my car. I drive an Audi A4 Quattro. Little things are starting to fall apart, but I have a hard time parting with the car because it drives so well.

Yesterday the A/C decided it didn’t want to kick on. At least that’s what I thought it was. Instead in sussing out the situation, I discovered that the servo that controls the temperature wasn’t moving to change the temperature. Now it comes down to figuring out if it’s an issue with the control unit, or if there’s an electrical short. Mostly because I’ve been able to get the servo to move – thus it’s not bad. Ah the joys of cars. I’m gonna put another hour into it today, then I’ve got to get to making some music. Thank you Roger for an awesome tune.

The machine of a dream, such a clean machine,
With the pistons a pumpin’, and the hubcaps all gleam.
    When I’m holding your wheel,
All I hear is your gear,
When my hand’s on your grease gun,
Oh it’s like a disease son,
I’m in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile,
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar,
Such a thrill when your radials squeal.

Told my girl I just had to forget her,
Rather buy me a new cartburettor,
So she made tracks sayin’ ths is the end now,
Cars don’t talk back they’re just four wheeled friends now,

    When I’m holding your wheel,
All I hear is your gear,
    When I’m cruisin’ in overdrive,
Don’t have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive,

I’m in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile,
I’m in love with my car, string back gloves in my automolove!

    Enjoy your car today!

I Want To Break Free By Queen

i-want-to-break-freeA few years ago I was invited to dinner by one of my best friends Jeff Scott Soto. He prefaced it by saying, we’re going to dinner with Roger Taylor from Queen, don’t bring any music, don’t say you’re a musician, don’t ask about Queen. To which I asked Jeff when had I ever done something like that to anyone I’ve ever met through him [never was the answer]. I got to Koi near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles a few minutes late. They had already had some drinks and the moment I arrived we got seated.

First thing that comes out of Roger’s mouth as we sit is: “So what do you do?” I turn and look at Jeff thinking – what the hell do I say since he’s put it out there that I can’t say I’m a musician. I pause for a second and point at Jeff saying “I do what he does.” Roger responds with “Oh fantastic. Anything I’ve heard.” From there on out it was much easier conversing. The song “I Want To Break Free” comes on over the loud system. Mind you, I’m really curious about the solo in the song and I’m holding my tongue knowing I’m not supposed to ask. That is until Roger blurts out, what the hell is this doing on the loud system? It was never a hit for us. Boom, open game. Both Jeff and I express how cool of a song it is and I got in the question “Is that Brian on guitar or is that someone mimicking Brian on a synth for the solo?” Roger chuckles and proceeds to tell Jeff and I the inner workings of how and what Queen did when recording. I’ve written a book about my musical life and the story about this dinner, the song and what Roger told us is in it. You’ll have to wait to find out what he told us.

    I want to break free
    I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You’re so self satisfied I don’t need you
    I’ve got to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free.

    I’ve fallen in love
I’ve fallen in love for the first time

And this time I know it’s for real
    I’ve fallen in love, yeah
God knows, God knows I’ve fallen in love.

    It’s strange but it’s true
I can’t get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free, baby
Oh how I want to be free,
Oh how I want to break free.

    But life still goes on
I can’t get used to, living without, living without,
Living without you by my side
I don’t want to live alone, hey
God knows, got to make it on my own
    So baby can’t you see
    I’ve got to break free.

    I’ve got to break free
I want to break free, yeah
I want, I want, I want, I want to break free.

    NFL And Queen

    we are the champions

What an interesting day. It’s got a big combo going on with it. I was emailed fairly early by a PR person looking forme to do a blog post on my blog ‘Single of the Day‘ which is currently on a little hiatus. He reminded me that it is Freddie Mercury’s birthday today, or least it would have been. Anyone who is a big Queen fan ought to know that. Let’s add the 2nd punch. Today marks the beginning of the NFL season with an NFL Thursday night game tonight between the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos. So I’ll give a little shout out to Queen’s awesome song “We Are The Champions” which turned into a massive sporting hit. It’s an oldie but killer goodie.

    We Are The Champions

    I’ve paid my dues
    Time after time
    I’ve done my sentence
    But committed no crime
    And bad mistakes
    I’ve made a few
I’ve had my share of sand
    Kicked in my face
    But I’ve come through

And we mean to go on and on and on and on

We are the champions – my friends
    And we’ll keep on fighting
    Till the end
    We are the champions
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions of the World

    I’ve taken my bows
    And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it
    I thank you all
But it’s been no bed of roses
    No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before
    The whole human race
    And I ain’t gonna lose

And we mean to go on and on and on and on

We are the champions – my friends
    And we’ll keep on fighting
    Till the end
    We are the champions
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions of the World

We are the champions – my friends
    And we’ll keep on fighting
    Till the end
    We are the champions
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
    ‘Cause we are the champions

Finally Song Eighteen Is "I Miss"

Doling out the news… That’s what’s happening. Since the last post about song seventeen, I’m now on the final leg of the preproduction stage. That’s the word finally song eighteen is “I Miss”.

The song underwent a bit of a transformation. I changed the rhythm of the piano part. In a way it’s a bit more simplified. It also changes it from feeling too much like a song from the 80’s in it’s rhythmic value on the piano.

Lyrically it has stayed the same. I’m positive they were right the first time.

Vocally is where the most change happened. I’ve added an insane amount of vocal harmony. Think Queen, if you’re familiar with them. It’s going to be vocally HUGE. It will be interesting to see how it vibes out in the studio with extra singers on it. I’m thinking it will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 tracks of vocal harmonies. Big big big.

There it is. The last song on the list for the new CD/release. Song eighteen is called “I Miss”. Now it’s a matter of hunting down that investor money. Once that happens, I’ll be heading into the studio and pumping out these tracks with pure awesomeness.

Stay tuned for another update in a few days.
